What is Community Development?
The word community development means different things to different people, but the concept behind this term is that a community benefits from its members working together.
Concept of Community Development
The concept of a community development project is broadly used in English speaking countries such as the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and many more. It has also become an increasingly popular term in certain countries in Eastern Europe, such as Romania and Hungary. A community development project is a process by which a country or state enacts legislation regulating certain activities that a community may engage in. For example, if an organization were to engage in a project that resulted in creating an educational facility, such legislation would likely require that the community take measures to ensure that the school can serve students’ needs in the area.
Community development laws
Community development laws have been enacted in countries worldwide, and the language used is typically the same across the board. The terms that may be used to describe these laws vary by state. However, in general, the community development law will govern an area within a community. It will generally cover infrastructure, the establishment of educational facilities, community centers, and any other type of public buildings or projects that may be necessary. In most cases, community development will not restrict a property owner’s ability to build on their own.
Government Programs
The purpose of these programs is to make sure that all individuals living in the community can benefit from a group’s efforts to improve the community. Some people refer to these programs as community services, while others use the term to refer to charitable or governmental programs. Whatever the terminology, it is a form of a project that ultimately assists those who need assistance in education, employment, or learning. Several types of government programs involve community development projects, including community development grants, neighborhood revitalization, and community development loans.
Tax Breaks
One of the most common ways to establish a community development program is through tax breaks. These programs can help a person receive money from the government given to a group to assist with a specific type of project. These can range from grants to tax deductions on real estate to assist in starting a small business.
While several parameters and requirements initiate such projects, many private and government organizations sponsor and promote these projects to better their communities.
