If you wish to save your vision, then you have to take good care of your eyes. This is getting harder and harder to do in the modern world. In the past, all you were cautioned against was looking directly at the sun, reading in the dark, and watching too close to the television. Nowadays, however, we stare directly in front of a light source every single day. We use our computers for work and our phones for communication or entertainment. They are not optional devices. We need them to complete our tasks and stay in touch with our loved ones. There is no walking away. However, we can acquire a few things that will help us cope.

Blue Light Eyewear

Consider getting glasses that has a coating that can filter out blue light. This is part of the spectrum that is responsible for eye damage. The filter may be part of prescription lenses. If you haven’t gotten your eyes checked for a while, then maybe it’s time for a visit to the doctor. Get new prescription glasses that is suitable to your current visual acuity and ask for lenses with this type of filter. You will immediately see the difference upon wearing one. The bluish tint will be reduced so the reds and greens will appear stronger. This may not be the most ideal solution for graphic designers because they need to just color accurately but it should work well for most people.

Blue Light Software

You could also download software that can adjust the blue light emanating from your device. This is available for both computers and smartphones. You can adjust the settings of screen’s color temperature and percentage of dimness. You can always close it if you need to see something in its original state. You could also set the day of the time when these settings will automatically kick in. Many can be downloaded for free. Just do a quick search and you will find a number of options. If you don’t want to install an app, then you can simply adjust the hardware settings such as brightness and blue light strength.

Filtered Monitors

If you have a fairly old monitor, then consider upgrading to a new one with modern features. The old CRT monitors are particularly bad at emitting light that hurts the eyes. Using a flat screen LED monitor is much better, particularly if it has built-in technology that reduces blue-light emission. Check the features of newer models as they will specify is this is included in the specifications.
