Community support workers(CSW) helps the clients who are unable to perform their day to day activities especially disabled persons. They assist the clients to live a normal and independent life on their own. A community support worker does not necessarily need any specific qualification to undergo this role. People with instinct to serve others are best suited for this job role and they can earn a sound income undergoing all the social service activities. They specifically help the vulnerable people in doing the household tasks like cooking food, washing clothes, cleaning utensils and home cleaning. These people play rewarding roles as they facilitate healthy and happy living to the vulnerable people, enabling them a quality life.
The support workers can do independent work as well as can get associated with a support team. The support services are tailored as per the requirements of the clients. The people they serve may be physically challenged, mentally disabled or suffering from any serious illness.
CSWs undergoes the following responsibilities under their respective roles:
-Providing mental, emotional and physical support to facilitate better life conditions to the clients.
-Assisting them in taking proper medications, diet and in undergoing exercises.
-Assisting in day to day tasks like paying bills, attending appointments and undergoing purchase of necessary items.
-Helping them in managing their finances.
The support work roles do not need any earlier experience in the same field but the workers need to be honest, trustworthy, hard working, determined, patient and commited. Possessing a driving license is an additional asset to be a successful CSW as he can help a lot in all the travels of the client. They must posses literacy skills, IT and digital skills, problem solving skills, interpersonal skills and numerical skills. They must be excellent communicators and must have kindness, calm- caring nature, emotional resilience, compassion and punctuation. The healthcare personnels can prove to be successful CSWs as they have the knowledge, skill and experience to take care of patients by assisting them in physical activities as well as guiding them to take proper medications.
They are trained by the employers to learn all the requisite skills needed to serve the community. Appropriate information about specific disabilities, ways to train the clients for those disabilities, balanced diet plans, exercises any many other health care techniques are taught to them to perform their roles successfully. CSWs associate with the family members, teachers, doctors, other CSWs and team leaders to analyze,
and implement support system effectively.
